This toolkit can be used as a series of worksheets or they can be fastened together to make a workbook (the front page for the workbook is at the end of the document).



For the first activity in the workbook, the teacher needs to supply the students with small strips of yellow, green, pink, and blue paper. The students write character names, locations, and incidents on the papers, and mix them up with other students papers. They then select them at random, and write their stories based on their choices. Alternatively, you could let the students choose their own ideas. The rest of the workbook explains the process for writing the stories.



Once the workbook has been completed, the teacher can check the drafts before the students write up neat versions of their stories on bordered paper, or on computers. It is fun to have a story reading lesson, where the students read their stories to each other. You could also bind their stories together to make a book of short stories for the classroom, or for parents.
