The purpose of this powerpoint is to get students thinking about adverts and the clever ways in which products are advertised.  Begin by showing the video on the first slide.  Stop the video at 1:20 and ask the students to discuss their ideas about what is being advertised.  Next go through each slide and have the students do the same, either in groups or in pairs, before showing them the answer on the following slide.

This PPT was designed for my 11th graders (upper-intermediate). It contains a brief description of the goals of advertising. 10 slides follow on some of the most common tactics used to convince people to buy. There is a short description + exemplifying ads.

After the students have decided what might happen in the future move on to a group activity where students design a business of their own and explain why it's a good idea.



The last part of the ppt has questions for IELTS and an activity where students identify popular brands and discuss the business behind them and why they are successful.
