A great quiz which takes about 40 minutes. There are a variety of questions related to the UK such a famous people (Ed Sheeran), the name of the queen and the size of the population. It works great as an end of year activity to get the students engaged and hopefully more interested in our culture so they study harder! You can change the difficulty by removing the A/B/C/D options or editing the questions.

UK Pop Culture Quiz

A short look at the festivals celebrated around the world. It is a powerpoint version of the festivals showing the picture and giving a little information about 12 different festivals commonly celebrated around the world.

Festivals

Designed as an intercultural lesson, however this is suitable for general English also. Good for levels B1-C1, a complete lesson with warmer, discussion and a link to a video. 

Culture and stereotypes

A matching game to do for the new year! Great for beginners and intermediate. Practices "I will" statements and using "more often" and "less often". After reading the various resolutions, students will write the number of each sentence in the "cloud" that correlates with each picture.

This PowerPoint Jeopardy game lets students have fun while examining Christmas and winter activities in Japan and around the world. The questions look at winter sports, cultural activities in Japan, clothes, weather, and Santa Claus. The 100-500 questions are hyperlinked as well as the answers giving them a chance to return and try again.

TED talk superstitions

These are 20 Flashcards about nationality. Each one contains symbols and features of a particular nation/ culture in the world. Students should recognize these symbols and write the correct adjectives of nationalities under the images. It could be an interesting activity or game to learn vocabulary about nationality and students may have a lot of fun if they work in pairs or group.

This is a group of slides that can be used to supplement (or replace) the worksheet of the same name.

I recommend perhaps creating your own few slides at the beginning to demonstrate customs that may be peculiar to your own country.

Here is a lesson on reinvented fairy tales. The first slide is to get the pupils to understand the topic we are going to study. Again you need to change my version and make the questions disappear on the click. 

Then there is a speaking activity based on Tex Avery's Little Red Hot Riding Hood. 

This lesson is to be used with high school pupils aged over 15.
